Robert T. "Bob" Harter

Robert T. Harter, 91, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Valley Health Services, Herkimer. He was born September 13, 1927 in Ilion, the son of the late Thomas Devoe and Mary (Mamie) Twamly Harter and was educated in Ilion leaving school in his junior year to enlist in the Navy during WW2. Upon his return from the Navy he went back a graduated in 1947. Bob continued his education graduating from the New York State Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in 1949 receiving his food administration certificate. On June 23, 1952 he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Studer in Brazil, In. she passed away on June 8, 2012.

Bob for many years was employed as a machinist with G.E. and Chicago Pneumatic, Bob and Betty owned and operated the Otsego House (Harter's Beach) in Ilion for many years and he was employed with the N.Y.S. Department of Labor as a Safety and Health Inspector, he retired as supervising inspector for the Syracuse-Binghamton area. Following his retirement he went on to work at K-Mart in various positions and then Walmart.

Bob is survived by three sons and their wives Tom and Mary, Dan and Lisa and Dick and Rosemary, two daughters, Kathy and Jerry Doxtader and Joyce and William Dack, his grandchildren Bridgett White, Eric White, Dan Harter, Matthew Barton, Megan Barton, Luke Tubia, Elizabeth Hafner, Thomas Hafner, Tom Harter, Andrew Dack, Alex Dack, Erica Dack and Samuel, Silas, Salome Sharon Seth Susanna, Sarah Doxtader, Tanya and Randall Fogel and Shawn and Lauren Quinn. He is also survived by his greatgrandchildren Owen and McKenna White, Scarlett Haman and Grayson Barton. Amy Shawn Jr. Kyle, Philip, Andrew, and Faith Quinn, Randall 111, Cody, Blake and Caitlan Fogel.

Funeral services will be Monday, March 4, 2019 at 6:00 PM from the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc. 100 Otsego St., Ilion with the Rev. Robert Wollaber officiating, friends may call Monday from 4:00 until the time of the service. Interment will be in Armory Hill Cemetery in the spring.

Bob's family would like to thank the staff at Valley Health for all their care, kindness and compassion during his stay.
