Glenn E. Goodrich, 96, of 15 Arlington St. Ilion, passed away Friday January 6, 2012 at his home.
He was born December 3, 1915 in Herkimer the son of the late Edward B and Grace Moore Goodrich.
Glenn was a 1935 graduate of Ilion High School and was employed as a Registered Professional Nurse, graduating from the Brooklyn State Hospital School of Nursing. He was a graduate of St. Petersburg Junior College in Florida and New York University. He held a MA Degree from Teachers College, Columbia University, where he was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, a national honorary education society. He was also a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, receiving his diploma from the Graduate Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Glenn was employed for a number of years with the Federal Government. For several months in 1944 he was with the Medical Department of the Maritime Service Training Station in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, and then to Gorgas Hospital in the Panama Canal Zone, the Marine Hospital on Ellis Island, and St Elizabeths Hospital in Washington DC. Later he was also employed , before retiring, with the New York State Board of Social Welfare, inspecting hospitals and nursing homes, retiring in 1976 as a senior consultant of Adult Institutions. Following his retirement he retuned to Ilion and became active in various organiztions, serving on the Board of Directors of the Central New York Health Systems Agency in Syracuse. Glenn also served on the Village Of Ilion Planning Board, and was Chairman of the Ilion Democratic Committee.
Glenn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ilion, and was a Elder of the Church. He was also a member of the Collectors Club of New York, the Precancel Stamp Society and the Bureau Issues Association as well as other Philatelic organizations. Glenn also wrote and plublished several articles on the postage stamps of Korea.
Glenn is survived by a nephew Edward Crough of Jenson Beach, Fl., he was predeceased by his sister June Crough.
Funeral services for Glenn will be held on Tuesday January 10, 2012 at 3:00 PM from the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otesgo Street Ilion, with Rev. Victor Mc Kusick officiating, Burial will be in the Armory Hill Cemetery Ilion at the convience of the family. Friends may call on Tuesday January 10th from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
Friends are asked to consider memorials to the First Presbyterian Church in Glenn's memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

The Whiter Funeral Company was started in 1893 by H.A. Whiter and was originally located in Forestport, NY. Following a fire in Forestport, the family relocated in Ilion, and reopened the funeral home in the early 1900's.
