Obituary of James Denison
James Denison, 78, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at home with his family by his side. Jim was born October 29, 1938, the son of the late Tuthill (Ted) and Marion Edick Denison. He was a graduate of Ilion High School. On May 16, 1959 he was united in marriage with Marie Conley in Ilion.
Jim was employed with the maintenance department of Ilion Central School until his retirement. He was a member of the Ilion Elks Lodge 1444, Ilion Fish & Game Club and a founding member of the Ilion Snowdrifters Club.
He was an avid car lover, especially his 1955 Ford Victoria. He loved attending car shows, camping, fishing and above all spending time with his family. He was known as Poppy to his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. There was no distance that would keep him from attending his grandchildren's activities, whether it be soccer, baseball, basketball or school field trips in Arizona; or an entire baseball or field hockey season in Connecticut. He was known as Poppy to the entire team and their families.
He was a master of all trades, there was nothing that could not be built or repaired by him. He was a truly talented individual and dedicated family man. Above all, he will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marie, three daughters and sons in law, Cindy and Phil Thomas of Baldwinsville, Sandra (Renee) and Mike Critz of Enfield, CT and Patti and Dwayne Kertanis of Enfield, CT, five grandchildren Derek Hatfield, Matthew Hatfield and fiancé Chelsea Brooks, Lindsay Hatfield and fiancé Jesse Kettle, Timothy Kertanis and Emma Kertanis.
