Paul E. March Sr., 88, passed away, Monday, September 4, 2017 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Health Care, New Hartford.
Paul was born in Ilion on March 18, 1929, the son of the late Harry and Vere Lindsey March. He was a graduate of Ilion and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Utica College, his Masters in Psychology from Syracuse University and his teaching certification from Oneonta.
Paul served with the U.S. Army in Japan during the Korean Conflict and was a proud member of General Douglas MacArthur’s Honor Guard. At one time he was married to Addie Scouten the mother of his children. On June 29, 1986 he was united in marriage with Martha Dempsey in Norwich, NY. Paul was employed as a teacher at West Canada Valley Central School prior to his retirement. He was also a member of the Ilion First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and an Elder. Paul was a member of DeMolay, was a Mason, and volunteered with Catholic Charites Domestic Violence Program.
Paul is survived by his wife Marty, his sister Arlene Corsillo, his five sons Paul Jr. PhD. and his wife Kathy Takayama PhD. of MA, Arthur and Carol March of Albany, Walter and Sherry March of PA., Walter and Kelly Slentz of Baytown, TX and Daniel and Jessica Slentz of Ilion, his two daughters Paula and Doug Richardson of Clinton and Alice March PhD, and her husband Joe Marino, MD. of Arkansas. He also leaves several grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Paul was predeceased by his siblings, Alice March, Helen Bruce, Vernetta Bouck, Esther Bower, Elizabeth Jones, Richard March, Nelson March, Howard March and Grant March.
A Celebration of Paul’s Life will be Friday at 12:00 AM from the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Otsego St, Ilion, with Rev’s. Rick Riggle and David Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion with full military honors. Friends may call Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
Friends are asked to consider memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association in Paul’s memory; envelopes are available at the funeral home.
