Obituary of Janice E. Bruce

Janice E. Bruce, 82 formerly of Gibson Street, Dolgeville passed away Thursday morning, February 27, 2020 at Valley Health Services, Herkimer where she has been a resident since April 2015.
She was born on July 10, 1937 in Dorset, Vermont the daughter of the late Edwin and Irene (Hazelton) Clayton. She was graduate of Burr and Burton Academy, Manchester, Vermont, Class of 1958.
She united in marriage to her husband Ellis G. Bruce on July 9, 1960 at the Baptist Church of Manchester, Vermont. Ellis predeceased her on September 2, 2007.
She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church, Dolgeville.
Janice along with Ellis for many years owned and operated a dairy farm located on Johnnycake Road in the Town of Danube. After leaving the farm they owned and operated for 15 years the Alpine Auto Mall, Little Falls. They were forced into retirement when Alpine Auto Mall was destroyed by a fire July of 2003.
She is survived by a daughter Wanda Kenyon and her Husband Ken, Little Falls, three sons Rodney Bruce and his wife Debbie, Rome, NY., Devin Bruce and his wife Keri, FL., Ben Bruce and his wife Marcia, Dolgeville, her twin brother Jerry Clayton and his wife Jean, Bennington, VT., grandchildren Andy Kenyon and wife Tracy, Charity Kenyon and her companion Paul Cirillo, Hannah Gage and companion Jeff Kalies, Justin Broadbent and wife Jessica, Timothy Broadbent and wife Trixie, Cassie Engelbrecht and husband Dean, Brianna and Jorden Bruce, Michelle Williams, McKayla Miller and husband Tom, Morgan, Jayden and Brayden Kamp, great grandchildren Alex Johnson, Gabrielle and Ryleigh Kenyon, Xander Gage and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her five brothers Ken, Neal, Arnold, Alford, Richard Clayton and a sister Ethel Green.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 1:00 pm from the Grace Baptist Church, 12 Van Buren Street, Dolgeville with the Pastor Lenny Byerly officiating. Interment will take place at Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills later in the spring.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Otsego Street, Ilion, NY on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 from 10am -12pm prior to the services at church.
It is the wishes of the family that contributions in memory of Mrs. Bruce be considered to Valley Health Services, Residence Fund, 690 West German Street, Herkimer, NY. 13350.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the care and compassion shown to Janice by Valley Health Services and their forever caring staff.

The Whiter Funeral Company was started in 1893 by H.A. Whiter and was originally located in Forestport, NY. Following a fire in Forestport, the family relocated in Ilion, and reopened the funeral home in the early 1900's.
