Ilion
Ann Marie Wicks, 78 of Ilion, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday March 7, 2021.
Ann was born on April 22, 1942 in Syracuse. She was the daughter of the late, Fred A. and Estella (Eddy) Wicks. She was a graduate of Whitesboro Schools and Faxton School of Nursing. She was a Registered Nurse at Oneida City Hospital, Mohawk Valley General Hospital and Catholic Charities, retiring in 1995.
Throughout her entire life, Ann always tried to walk in the path of Jesus. Ann was a member of the Ilion First Baptist Church, where she served as a Deacon, a Christian Education Committee member, and the current chair of the Board of Trustees. She also hosted the weekly women’s Bible study at her home every Saturday. Ann was ordained as a Lay Pastor in 1987, having served as Lay Pastor of the First Baptist Church of North Utica for over 18 years. Ann most recently served on the ABC NYS Lay Study Committee, working to help mentor upcoming Lay ministers.
Ann is survived by a son Kenneth E. DeVaul III and his wife Marie of Richfield Springs; two daughters Donna (DeVaul) Pomerleau of Ilion, and Laurie (DeVaul) LaVine and her husband Paul of Ilion; one sister; Patricia Dillon of NC; six grandchildren Kelsey LaVine, Phillip Harney Jr., Samatha Harney, Danielle Pomerleau, Kyle Seaman and Theresa Seaman; five great grandchildren Kamden Harney, Mark Gallagher, Brittany Hight, Stella Harney and Alexander DeVaul. She also leaves behind many close friends, along with her feline companion Missy. Ann will be dearly missed by so many friends and her family.
A memorial service for Ann will be held on Sunday March 14, 2021 at 1 pm at the Ilion First Baptist Church with Pastor John Partise officiating. Friends may call on Saturday from 11 am to 1 pm at the church. Interment will be in the Grandview Cemetery in Whitesboro.
Friends and family are asked to please consider memorial donations to the Ilion First Baptist Church, 8 Second St. Ilion, NY 13357. Envelopes will be available at the church.

The Whiter Funeral Company was started in 1893 by H.A. Whiter and was originally located in Forestport, NY. Following a fire in Forestport, the family relocated in Ilion, and reopened the funeral home in the early 1900's.
