Obituary of John Martin Austin, Sr.

Ilion - Mr. John Martin Austin, Sr., age 66, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at MVHS St. Luke’s Campus.
Born in Herkimer on November 17, 1955, he was the son of the late Robert Norman, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Lonis) Austin. He attended Herkimer schools. John worked maintenance for Global Communications until he retired in 2018.
John is survived by his wife, Victoria; his children, Rebecca Austin, Mary LaCelle, Sarah and Albert Torres, John Austin, Jr., Jean Austin and companion Steven Renodin, Amber Pearson and Francis Helmer; his sister and best friend, Jean Suiter, and sisters Grace McDonough, and Dolores Austin; brother Neil Austin; 19 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren with one more on the way, many nieces and nephews and his fur baby, Bandit. John was predeceased by his parents Robert and Mary Austin; sisters, Margaret Everson, and Evelynn Muzzy; brothers Robert Austin and Elmer Austin; grandson, Lucas Torres; great-grandson Jace LaCelle; and a brother-in-law that was so special to him, Donald Suiter.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022 from 1:00-2:00 at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home at 100 Otsego St, Ilion. Visitation will be followed by a service with Pastor Andy at 2:00.
Per family request all in attendance must wear masks.

About Us
The Whiter Funeral Company was started in 1893 by H.A. Whiter and was originally located in Forestport, NY. Following a fire in Forestport, the family relocated in Ilion, and reopened the funeral home in the early 1900's.
