Obituary of Leta Sterling

Ilion - Ms. Leta Sterling, 87, of Ilion, passed away, Saturday, May 6, 2023 in Bassett Medical Center with her family by her side.
She was born in Ilion on December 5, 1935, the daughter of the late Lee and Lillian Snyder Sterling and she attended Ilion Schools. Leta was employed as a Secretary for UNIVAC for many years.
Leta is survived by her niece, Sharon Firley and her children, Rebecca and Joe, nephew, Theodore Brebeck and wife Sharron and daughter Brenda, nephew, Arthur Sterling and wife Mary, and many other nieces and nephews; best friend, Colleen Cook and Coffee Clutch from Fly Creek Cider Mill.
Her funeral will be held Friday, May 12, 2023 at 12 pm from the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, 100 Otsego St. in Ilion where a funeral service will be celebrated by Pastor Cindy Makarchuk of the Stittville United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Armory Hill Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Leta's memory may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

The Whiter Funeral Company was started in 1893 by H.A. Whiter and was originally located in Forestport, NY. Following a fire in Forestport, the family relocated in Ilion, and reopened the funeral home in the early 1900's.
