Obituary of James Lee Schaffer

Frankfort - Mr. James Lee Schaffer, 75, passed away at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center on May 12, 2023, with his family by his side.
James was born in Morris on May 21, 1947, the son of late Harold V. Schaffer and late Veronica Hayes Schaffer. James attended school at Morris Central School and Whitesboro Central School.
James is survived by his two sons, Jake and Jock Schaffer of Herkimer; brothers, Rodney Schaffer of Ilion and Richard Schaffer of New Lisbon; sisters Jean Wehrle of Frankfort and Karen Lamb of Utica along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. James was predeceased by his brother, Rouland H. Schaffer.
Special thanks to Colleen Polinski, and the staff on the third floor at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.
His funeral will be held on Monday, May 22, 2023 at 1:00 PM in the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, 100 Otsego St. in Ilion. Calling hours will take place from 12:30 PM until the time of services in the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Oak View Cemetery in Frankfort.

The Whiter Funeral Company was started in 1893 by H.A. Whiter and was originally located in Forestport, NY. Following a fire in Forestport, the family relocated in Ilion, and reopened the funeral home in the early 1900's.
